The Side Garden

Although as of 2019, the side garden is somewhat plain and unadorned, it has undergone a number of transformations throughout the years.

In previous years the side garden has sometimes been the venue for barbecues and garden parties, being a little more sheltered than the main garden and more private.

In 2017 the garden lawn had flower bed borders along the walls, including a cherry tree. As of 2018, most of these were removed, with just one small bed and cherry tree left - that nearest the steps down into South Street.

Regardless of the transformations it has seen, however, the ornate bee bole that can be seen in the photo has remained a permanent fixture of the side garden. The shields to either side, although weathered, are still distinguishable as bearing the crest of the Stirling family.
